It is with gratitude that we honour the generous contributions of our donors in the public spaces of St. Mary’s (excepting those who wish to remain anonymous). Although there is no better reward than the feeling of having made a difference, our tribute is our way of saying thank you and encouraging others to follow in their footsteps.
The main lobby is home to a cumulative giving wall which lists donors who have contributed $20,000.00 or more in their lifetime to St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation. The names you will see here are those of our donors, our investors, our friends. They have recognized the value in investing in St. Mary’s and in doing so have left an indelible mark in this community. With humility and grace we list them here in the main lobby as a small gesture of appreciation. This wall will be updated annually and also reflects investments made through estates.
The other special recognition area is located outside of the Hospital’s main entrance. The ONE VOICE ONE VISION recognition area is a not only a wonderful homage to our very valuable supporters, it is a gathering spot for visitors to the hospital and a place to rest and reflect.

Donor Recognition Societies
Named to honour the memory of Sister M. Bonaventure, the first superintendent of St. Mary’s Hospital, this gift club recognizes donors of $1,000 to $4,999 per year. Like Sister Bonaventure herself, these donors are characterized by their leadership and commitment to the excellent care which has infused St. Mary’s General Hospital since its earliest days under Sister Bonaventure’s visionary guidance.
Col. Hugh J. Heasley (1882-1973) is the inspiration for this Society, established in 1995, honouring those who generously contribute $5,000 or more in a fiscal year to St. Mary’s.
An outstanding Kitchener-Waterloo citizen of his generation, Col. Heasley was a distinguished soldier, businessman, and community leader who made an enormous contribution to the development of St. Mary’s. He served as a member of its Board and as Chairman of its 1959 capital campaign which raised funds to build the current 10-storey tower which comprises much of the Hospital today.
Members of the Heasley Society gift club embody that same spirit of selfless dedication to the public good reflected in the life of the society’s namesake.
Members of the Cornerstone Society have a vision of St. Mary’s long-term financial health. They combine a sound financial decision and a practical commitment to lay a secure foundation for our Hospital well into the future.
Members of the Cornerstone Society are recognized in a listing in our Donor Recognition Centre and are presented with a special lapel pin.
Many members tell us the real benefit of planned giving lies in the opportunity to offer a gift far more substantial than they thought they could give. In addition, this level of philanthropy puts the member’s values into action, and makes each one a role model for the community.
If you have made a provision for St. Mary’s General Hospital in your estate and financial plans, please let us know so we can include you in the Cornerstone Society.
