Help solve the mysteries discovered in St. Mary’s General Hospital archives at a FREE community event!
St. Mary’s General Hospital opened its doors on October 21, 1924 and has been collecting archival artifacts for almost 100 years. The collection includes everything from the original land deeds for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, nursing school uniforms from the 1940s and 50s, hospital newsletters, departmental photos of ribbon-cuttings and parties, historic medical equipment and more.
The archives shed a new light on the history of the hospital and the community and offer us an opportunity to celebrate our progress and plan for our future. The St. Mary’s Medical Library has employed a co-op student to undertake a digitalization and reorganization project for the entire archives so the materials we have been collecting can be more easily accessed and understood.
In hopes of increasing our knowledge of some of these items and for the pleasure of a walk down memory lane, we would like to invite the community to an archival open house at Forest Heights Library on Saturday March 25 from 1-5pm.
