In August, 2010 St Mary’s Foundation and Hospital wanted to honour Jim Robertson’s many years of dedication and hard work on behalf of SMGH.
This recognition is in honour of or pays tribute to: James F Robertson, the Foundation’s first Executive director who went on to have many more official and unofficial roles within the hospital/foundation.
First executive Director of the St.Mary’s General Hospital Foundation, and Chair of the 1989 Campaign for St.Mary’s. After leading this effort to raise over $9 million for extensive renovations, new construction and equipment purchases, Jim was invited to join the Foundation’s Board of Directors and later became President of the Board in 1998. He was one of the founding members of the Association of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundations, part of the St. Joseph’s Health System.
Jim was a longtime community volunteer who has given his time and considerable talent to numerous organizations including Freeport Hospital, the Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation, the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club, and many others. For this he has received many honours including KW Citizen of the Year in 1987, the same year he was named a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. He received the Governor General’s Commemorative Medal for Community Service in 1992, and received the Mission Legacy Award of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton in 2008.
Born in Acton, Ontario, and raised and educated in Hamilton, Jim served in the Royal Canadian Navy, and retired from Union Gas Limited after 37 years of service. Jim is the consummate volunteer, deeply committed to his community and, particularly, to the Mission of St. Mary’s General Hospital.
