On December 14, 2009 Paul Straus, Vice-President and CEO, Home Hardware Stores Limited, presented St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation, at St. Mary’s Hospital with a cheque for $100,000 as the final installment of the company’s commitment to donate $500,000 dollars to the foundation over four years.
Home Hardware has been a community-based business since its inception in 1964, one that encourages its Dealers and staff to build meaningful, long-term relationships with the neighbourhoods they serve.
For more than 40 years, the communities of Waterloo Region have played a particularly important role in the history of Home Hardware. The company’s history is rooted in St. Jacob’s where in 1964 Walter Hachborn and Henry Sittler opened the original Home Hardware store of what has grown to a network of more than 1,000 stores Canada-wide.
Home Hardware’s donation to St. Mary’s General Hospital was earmarked for the construction of an operating room at the Centre of Excellence in Urology. The Centre focuses on treating life-altering affects of urological disorders such as prostate cancer, incontinence and kidney stones.
Over the years, St. Mary’s Hospital has touched the lives of many Home Hardware staff, family and friends. This investment in support of the Surgical Suite acknowledges the relationship between Home Hardware Stores Limited and the people of Waterloo Region. We are proud to be able to give back to the communities that have supported our organization since the beginning.
