Celebrating 90 Years

St.Marys_Legacy

When St. Mary’s first opened its doors in 1924, it was a lone building on the outskirts of town surrounded by dirt roads and farmers’ fields. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, the hospital was established on a simple but powerful belief; that it was an honour to serve the sick. The modest 100 bed hospital that treated 31 patients in its first week now serves hundreds of patients daily and stands tall as an icon of hope and healing.

Much has changed in the past 90 years, but one thing remains the same—our goal to provide the best patient care possible, with innovation, compassion and respect that can still be characterized by our founders’ unwavering commitment to the sick.

As a friend and supporter of St. Mary’s, you played a vital role in our mission by generously investing in the health of our community. Your support has helped to shape our hospital into what it is today—a provincial and national leader in health outcomes and patient safety.

Now, we look to the future with our legacy in mind.

Over the next few years we will enhance a number of our clinical services, starting with the development of a new arrhythmia program. Once completed, this program will provide us with the tools and space to diagnose and treat heart rhythm issues— including irregular heartbeats and atrial fibrillation—and virtually eliminate the need for patients to travel outside of our community for this highly specialized care.

Please consider making a gift to St. Mary’s and help us continue our legacy for years to come.

On behalf of the staff, volunteers, physicians and most importantly, our patients, I wish you and your loved ones good health, and all the best this holiday season.

Sincerely,

Peter Sweeney
President
St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation
